PBS co-operative are running free course for professionals and parent or carers who are supporting someone with additional needs that are presenting with behaviours that challenge. These aim to help families, carers orprofessionals to understand the function of behaviours, how to adapt the environment and routine to better meet someone's needs and improve their quality of life, which often results in a reduction in behaviours that challenge.
The courses are being run on several dates; for more information please see the flyers in the news information part of the website.
Bookings can be made via eventbrite or by email to: [email protected]
Littledown is a member of a national group of SEMH settings that support each other through peer review.
Part of this process is being able to visit other settings, as well as colleagues from other settings being able to visit us.
During these visits we share good practice and take opportunities to discuss challenges we currently face.
Last year's visit was really positive, and the following are some positive parts from our report:
"We were able to observe the lower and upper playtimes where we saw staff actively setting up activities which kept the children well engaged through their play time."
"The children were inquisitive about our visit but very polite and appropriate when talking with us."
"Mrs Heaffey showed us some lovely examples of Art and History books which captured the breadth and depth of the children’s learning."
"We ate lunch in class with your year six children. From my point of view, I had an excellent time eating with Saturn class. The children were very polite and respectful and were confident in talking to me about the school and wider topics. All of the children had a good relationship with their class teacher and were keen for me to stay longer with them into the afternoon."
"During the afternoon we were able to observe Year 6 in history lessons as a part of their creativity afternoon. Whilst Jupiter Class did not have their regular teacher with them this was not obvious as all were well engaged with the task of making evacuee suitcases. The children could recall important facts and information about evacuation during World War II and this was mirrored in the other Year 6 class. We also looked at books in this year group and found good quality writing and mathematics, albeit this was very early in the term."
We are looking forward to our 22-23 visits!
