Our Alternative Provision team provide two services. We are currently commissioned by the Local Authority for 10 Alternative Provision places.
The first, statutory service, is providing the Local Authority's Sixth day provision for primary aged pupils who have been permanently excluded. Referrals are sent to us via the Local Authority.
The second, is a Nurture support group. This is a service that primary schools can access for primary aged children.
The Primary Nurture Group will primarily concentrate on enhancing children's social and emotional skills, providing a supportive environment where these foundational aspects of their development can flourish. Recognising the importance of addressing the holistic needs of children, the programme will also incorporate elements of a bespoke academic curriculum tailored to each child's unique learning needs and capabilities.
The main aim of this initiative is to support children who are exhibiting significant Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within their mainstream school environment. These children may struggle to thrive academically and socially due to their SEMH challenges. By offering a targeted programme of support, the Primary Nurture Group seeks to create a nurturing space where these children can develop the skills and resilience, they need to succeed both personally and academically.
The Nurture Group programme, costing £4500 for an intensive six-week period, offers a premium service designed to support our most vulnerable children.
If a pupil has been placed in Littledown's Sixth Day provision, we provide a bespoke curriculum for that child's individual needs. The Sixth Day provision class can take children at any primary age, therefore teaching will be specific to their academic and emotional levels.
We support the child and their family through the exclusion process and we aim to have the child returned to a suitable education provision within a turnaround of approximately 12 weeks.
Once a new school has been identified, Littledown manages a process of reintegration through a meeting that normally involves parents and senior representatives of both Littledown and receiving schools. The Intensive Outreach team are then a major part of supporting that reintegration. They will also coordinate a review meeting/s to establish when a pupil is ready to transfer completely.
