Our Intensive Outreach team provide two services. We are currently commissioned by the Local Authority for 10 Alternative Provision places.
The first, statutory service, is providing the Local Authority's Sixth day provision for primary aged pupils who have been permanently excluded.
The second, is Intensive Outreach support. This is support for staff in mainstream schools in understanding the needs of specific children displaying Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. Individual programmes are developed with a view of keeping a child in mainstream education and therefore preventing permanent exclusion.
If a pupil has been placed in Littledown's Sixth Day provision, we provide a bespoke curriculum for that child's individual needs. The Sixth Day provision class can take children at any primary age, therefore teaching will be specific to their academic and emotional levels.
We support the child and their family through the exclusion process and we aim to have the child returned to a suitable education provision within a turnaround of approximately 12 weeks.
Once a new school has been identified, Littledown manages a process of reintegration through a meeting that normally involves parents and senior representatives of both Littledown and receiving schools. The Intensive Outreach team are then a major part of supporting that reintegration. They will also coordinate a review meeting/s to establish when a pupil is ready to transfer completely.
The Intensive Outreach team are also involved with integrations of Littledown pupils returning to mainstream education in much the same way.
The Intensive Outreach team can be available to intensively support primary, mainstream pupils in their schools: setting up behaviour regulation monitoring systems, training mainstream school staff by modelling behaviour regulation management or supporting whilst additional support is identified by the school. This support is limited to two terms but has been an effective preventative measure. Referrals for this service are made through the Primary Inclusion Panel and a referral form must be completed.
